Description

A rather not too well known and very strange galaxy in the Southern Skies, part of the Virgo Supercluster - NGC1313. Its shape might be the result of a collision with another galaxy long time ago and since there is no other galaxy close-by, NGC1313 might have swallowed the intruder.

It is a barred spiral starburst galaxy, about half in size compared to our Mikyway galaxy and its distance is estimated be around 14Mio LJ. One can find it in the constellation Reticulum.

Some time ago, I saw the exciting image which Wolfgang Promper showed here, acquired on a 24inch ASA - I was interested to find out what one could obtain using a much smaller telescope - and found older raw files on Insight Observatory - acquired on a 12,5" Quasar RC with a SBIG STL11000 camera and RGBL filters. The difference is quite impressive but nevertheless, one can get an impression of the strangeness of that galaxy as well.
